About Rick Bagby
Rick Bagby is in his 28th year overseeing the Athletic Video Services Department for Clemson University. In the Summer of 2014, he added the title of Assistant Athletic Director for Video and Technology, reflecting the ever-growing importance that both Technology and Video play in collegiate athletics.
Bagby oversees all live video productions for Clemson Athletics. This includes all ESPN, ACC Network and Video Board shows that originate from Clemson’s two campus studios. In 2024 Bagby and his crew produced over 200 events that ranged from Dabo Swinney’s weekly press conferences to in-game video board productions to linear TV events on ACC Network and ESPN. On-line content his department produces can be found on the ACC Network Extra platform as well as Clemson’s website and social media sites.
Bagby oversees seven full time staff members, approximately fifty students and a growing number of freelance personnel. He hires and assigns all ACC Network Extra announcers and oversees the assignment of radio talent. Working closely with Clemson Ventures and WCCP Radio, Bagby juggles the staffing of all radio and ACCNX broadcasts for the Athletics Department.
Of all these duties that Bagby oversees, his favorite is the mentoring and supervision of his student staff. Currently with fifty students, Bagby relishes the chance to work with Clemson students daily. Teaching students how to produce live events is just a means for Bagby to teach skills that will allow for their growth while at Clemson. Enhancing students resumes, teaching real world work skills and providing a place for students to learn and grow is what Bagby enjoys the most about his job.
Bagby began his video career while still in high school in Lexington, NC. When not playing a sport, he could be found behind a VHS camera recording content for the coaches to review. In 1990 during his High School senior year, he began working with the University of North Carolina football team operating a camera on game day Saturdays. The following fall Bagby began his career at North Carolina where he worked all four years as a student videographer for the football team earning three varsity letters. After graduating with a degree in Physical Education in 1995, Bagby took a year off from video to serve as a Residence Hall Manager at Granville Towers in Chapel Hill.
He returned to the UNC football team as a Video Assistant in 1996. Following that season Bagby became an Assistant Video Coordinator with the University of Wisconsin football team in March of 1997. A few months later Bagby was named to his first head position as the Video Coordinator for the University of Louisville football team. Bagby enjoyed one year at Louisville before moving on to Clemson in May of 1998. While at Clemson he spent countless hours serving as the Vice President and then the President of the Collegiate Sports Video Association. Helping to promote the importance of the Video Coordinator in college athletics and helping the young organization grown in importance has always been one of Bagby’s greatest honors.
Bagby was named a two-time ACC Video Coordinator of the Year by the Collegiate Sports Video Association during his time overseeing Coaches Video. He was inducted into the CSVA Hall of Fame in 2023. In 2018, Bagby was named the SVG College Sports Summit Pioneer Award recipient in recognition of his long career as a leader in the sports video industry.
An avid golfer in his spare time, Bagby is married to the former Jennifer Robinson. They have two daughters, Payton – a recent Clemson graduate – and Taylor, who will be a sophomore at Clemson.
